HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE AND GARLIC

Garlic is an ingredient used in preparing food which some of you may like and for some it may be repelling. However, other than spicing up your daily palates this also serves the purpose of curing many ailments including high blood pressure. This ingredient has been used by the traditional healers from centuries.

How does Garlic help in controlling high blood pressure?

Apparently when garlic is digested it releases hydrogen sulfides. These hydrogen sulfides interact with the red blood cells and allow the arteries to relax. The Selenium content present in garlic is known to make the blood pressure normal and the germanium content prevents cancer.

Garlic contains biochemical compounds such as Allicin which has antibiotic properties which is destroyed when it is cooked, Allinase and Allyls which help Vitamin B1 to be more effective, Allin that is responsible for easy digestion of proteins and Ajoene which is used for preventing blood clots. Garlic helps to reduce the spasms in your veins thus bringing your high blood pressure to normal levels. It also brings down the pulse rate of your heart.

The other effects of Garlic

Garlic contains Allicin which is responsible for relaxing your blood vessels during high blood pressure occurrences. It saves the walls of your blood vessels from further damage. Garlic is also known to have lipid lessening effects. In surveys conducted, results have shown the drop in cholesterol level from 9 to 12%. Thus garlic is hailed as the herbal treatment for hypertension. Garlic also reduces your platelet aggregates and lowers the risk of thrombosis. If you are a diabetic then garlic is effective in dropping the glucose levels. Garlic helps to maintain the healthy state of your digestive tract. It also helps in curing inflammations and other infections.

Side effects of Garlic

By consuming garlic you do not suffer from any side effects but you need to take some precautions. Garlic does not allow the blood to clot and tends to make your wounds bleed for a longer period. Thus, if you are scheduled for any surgery then abstain from any intake of garlic. Garlic and anticoagulants are not compatible. So you need to consult your doctor if you are taking some medicines before using garlic to control your high blood pressure.

Different forms of garlic that you can take

Garlic taken in the raw form is the best medicine for lowering your high blood pressure. 2 or 3 cloves are known to produce the desired results. However, some of you may not be very pleased with the strong smell of garlic. So you can take garlic supplements if you cannot take it in its pure form. You can even use it in your recipes and Garlic pasta is one such delicious food that you can try out. You can even use garlic instead of salt in your recipes. You can have it in the juice form or as broth. Garlic is not beneficial if you consume it in either cooked or dried form.
